From New York City to Charlottesville: How Mel started A & T

Mel Carrozza, the owner of A & T Furniture Refinishing, worked in the hospitality industry for more than twenty years before he made a career change. Ever since his childhood in New York City, he enjoyed painting houses. He always liked the satisfaction of seeing the way paint would transform a well-worn home giving it a fresh and vibrant look. .

 

With a solid foundation in painting techniques and industry knowledge gained from his mentor at a local well-respected paint shop, Mel transitioned to full-time painting after two years of hands-on experience. Armed with the skills, confidence, and understanding instilled by his boss, he successfully embarked on his own painting venture, eager to apply what he had learned and showcase his talent in the field.
 

This entrepreneur's journey began in a modest storefront in Ivy, Virginia, where he established his paint and cabinet refinishing shop. Thanks to his initial success, he upgraded from driving his personal vehicle for pick up and deliveries to investing in an A & T Refinishing van, which facilitated growth. This expansion enabled him to increase his operational capacity, allowing him to handle up to four cabinet jobs simultaneously, marking a significant step forward in his business development.
 

After doing his research, he found that the Charlottesville and Central Virginia area needed an experienced indoor and outdoor painter. This part of his business has grown, as well, as he has built a team of quality artisans and painters.
